What personal data we collect and why we collect it

We collect personal data only where it is necessary to provide our services, respond to enquiries, improve our website, or comply with legal obligations.

This may include your name, email address, phone number, IP address, and any information you choose to share with us via forms, email, or comments.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, along with the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help with spam detection.

An anonymised string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to check if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. Once your comment is approved, your profile picture may be visible to the public alongside your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, please avoid uploading images that contain embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors to the website can download and extract location data from images displayed on the site.

Contact forms

If you contact us using a form on the website, we collect the information you provide such as your name, email address, and message so that we can respond to your enquiry.

This information is not used for marketing purposes unless you have explicitly consented to this.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site, you may opt in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to re-enter your details when leaving another comment. These cookies last for one year.

If you visit our login page, a temporary cookie is set to determine whether your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, several cookies are set to save your login information and screen display preferences. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for one year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. Logging out removes these cookies.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie contains no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you edited. It expires after one day.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content such as videos, images, or articles. Embedded content from other websites behaves in the same way as if you had visited that website directly.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with the embedded content, particularly if you are logged into an account on that website.

Who we share your data with

We do not sell or rent your personal data.

If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.

Visitor comments may be checked through automated spam detection services.

Where necessary, data may be shared with trusted service providers who support the operation of the website, only to the extent required to perform their services and in compliance with data protection laws.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely so we can recognise and approve follow-up comments automatically.

If you contact us via a form or email, we retain correspondence for as long as necessary to deal with your enquiry and for reasonable business or legal purposes.

For users who register on our website, we store the personal information provided in their user profile. Users can view, edit, or delete their personal information at any time, except for usernames. Website administrators can also view and edit this information.

What rights you have over your data

Under UK GDPR, you have the right to request access to the personal data we hold about you, request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data, request erasure of your personal data, object to or restrict certain processing of your data, and request data portability where applicable.

If you have an account on this site or have left comments, you can request an exported file of the personal data we hold about you. You can also request that we erase your personal data, except where we are required to retain it for administrative, legal, or security reasons.

Requests can be made by contacting hello@caryconsultancy.com.

Where your data is sent

Visitor comments may be checked through automated spam detection services. Some data may be processed outside the UK where third-party service providers are used, but appropriate safeguards are in place to protect your information.
